  • 2004 University of Minnesota Outstanding Director of Graduate Studies.
  • 2001 Dollar Works Team Award, Minnesota Association of Extension Educators and State Team Award from Epsilon Sigma Phi, Extension Honorary. Given for exemplar statewide programming with a team approach. Dollar Works is an economic literacy program for transitioning individuals and families.
  • 2001 Leadership Award. Given by NC223 Research Colleagues for persistent, effective, inspiring service and leadership as chair of NC 223 Research Project, 1999-2001.
  • 2000 Emens Distinguished Professorship, Ball State University, Muncie, IN.

Research & Discovery

Dollar Works - An educational program that equips agency staff and trained volunteers to work with newly employed individuals as they enter and maintain their place in the workforce. 

Rural Families Speak - Tracking the well-being and functioning of rural low-income families in the context of welfare reform. The Minnesota state team is one of 17 state teams working together on this very important societal issue.
