Prerequisites: FSoS 8032 or equivalent, or instructor consent


  Course Description :
  Content, theories, and methodologies in family science. Emphasizes findings of recent/emerging areas of research. Readings covering a wide range of topics. Critical examination of research studies. Targeted class discussion.
  Course Objectives / Goals:
 
  1. Explain the major research findings concerning a number of prominent areas of contemporary family science.
  2. Identify what is known with confidence about these areas of research, which findings are more tentative, and where the major gaps lie in the research.
  3. Identify current theoretical and methodological issues in contemporary family science.
  4. Analyze the strengths and weaknesses in the ways in which family science issues are currently being examined.
  5. Identify the contributions of multiple disciplines to family science research.
  Workload:
  3 contact hours per week, 9 hours of student workload per week.
